We transformed the three contextual issues into three architectural themes which in combination generate a completely new kind of building which unites specific contextual ideas combined to a new and highly specific icon.
museum landscape
The landscape provides the public museum circulation where the boundaries between inside and outside are blurred. The gentle slope allows a path that slowly reveals the view to the Hantan River and the adjoining mountain range.

exhibition pits
The “pits” are the exhibition areas embedded in the ground to turn the excavation of prehistoric artifacts into a theme in the Jeongok Prehistory Museum and give the visitor an authentic impression of the scientific process.

roof
The roof is the main architectural feature, inspired by the transparent, temporary covers over the excavation pits. The roof gives shelter to the actual museum, is structural and enables a column-free space with an unobstructed view.
