SITE/ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS
Considering the high historical and environmental value of the existing context, we think would be essential doing a preliminary evaluation of the environmental impact of the project and so on checking all the architectural, structural, technical and mechanical issues, in order to reduce the impact.
STRUCTURE
Two issues are essentials in defining the structural and constructing scheme of the project: the burying of the building (means positioning the volume in the geological depression) and the building process schedule organized with elementary pieces builded up out of the site and assembled on the site.
The first issue foreseen an accurate examination of the subsoil, the position and movements of the aquifer and the possible consequences on its balance during building phases
The second issues refers to a certain structural static scheme: the building structure is made of two platforms floors with reticular beams coming from a geometrical grid of power lines and internal tensions. This “matrix” is deduced from the static behaviour of the structure.
Important facts are modularity and repetitivity, prefabrication and choosing the right material to permit a fast building process on site.
The static scheme is made of two systems: the first perimetrical axis of reticular beams and the second one made of two spatial reticular platforms
Perimetrical beams are 8 mt. high and rest uphill above the basalt precipice.
Altogether the beams rest on 5 points, 2 on the edges and 3 on the inside.
This beams also support the upper and lower reticular platforms.
The platforms are 1,50 mt. high (with a maximum span of 25 mt.) and they are substained by vertical elements (columns and reticular walls) inside the building and by the perimetrical beams too.
The geology environment leads us to choose as structural ties all that are positioned uphill above the basalt precipice, while all ties downhill are considered as bogies, capables of reacting to vertical loads.
