Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art

Welcome to the largest contemporary art museum in the region and the only such museum in Kansas!

In 2007, Johnson County Community College in Overland Park enhanced its reputation as one of the cultural destinations of the region with the opening of the much anticipated Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art.

The museum is named for Jerome and Margaret Nerman and their son, Lewis, who are among the region's most prominent collectors of contemporary art. Housed in the museum is the renowned Oppenheimer Collection, founded in 1992 by philanthropists Marti and Tony Oppenheimer and the Oppenheimer Brothers Foundation. In 2004, the Oppenheimers began assembling a collection specifically destined for the new Nerman Museum. Works by emerging and established artists (recognized regionally, nationally and internationally) comprise the core of the museum's permanent collection.

The more than 41,000-square-foot Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art has a range of exhibition spaces, including galleries for temporary exhibitions, the Oppenheimer permanent collection, the works of Kansas City-based artists and new media. The museum also houses an auditorium, classrooms and Cafe Tempo.

The Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art provides cultural inspiration, educational insight and economic stimulus to Overland Park. Whether a student or visitor is 18 or 80, JCCC and the Nerman Museum offer him or her immediate access to important art, encouraging creativity, intellectual curiosity, diversity and support of the arts by living with art.

The Nerman Museum is open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday 10am-5pm, Friday 10am-9pm and Sunday 12-5pm. The museum is closed Mondays and all JCCC holidays. Admission and parking are always free at the Nerman Museum. For more information, contact the Nerman Museum.
